The invention discloses light foamed soil and a preparation method thereof, and belongs to the technical field of foamed soil preparation, the light foamed soil is formed by mixing a slurry component and a foam component, and the slurry component comprises cement, fine sand, modified bentonite, a water reducing agent and water; the foam component comprises a composite foaming agent, hydroxyethyl cellulose and water, bentonite is modified by using an organic modification method, the prepared modified bentonite is rich in a siloxane structure, on one hand, the siloxane structure is hydrolyzed to generate silanol, so that the bonding tightness between the bentonite and other raw materials such as cement, fine sand and the foaming agent is improved, and on the other hand, the bonding strength between the bentonite and the other raw materials such as cement, fine sand and the foaming agent is improved. A siloxane structure is subjected to self-polycondensation to generate an organic hydrophobic network, so that the impermeability of the foam soil is improved; the protein foaming agent and the surfactant are compounded to prepare the composite foaming agent, the modified foaming agent with excellent foaming performance and foam stability is finally prepared, and the light foam soil prepared by using the modified foaming agent has uniform compressive strength and impermeability in all directions.
