The invention relates to a ceramic material and a ceramic article prepared from the ceramic material. The ceramic material comprises zirconium oxide toughened aluminum oxide doped scandium (Sc) ions. The zirconia-toughened alumina may be further doped with other metal ions, and the other metal ions include cobalt (Co) ions, chromium (Cr) ions, zinc (Zn) ions, titanium (Ti) ions, manganese (Mn) ions, nickel (Ni) ions, or a combination thereof. The ceramic material can be used for ceramic objects such as bonding wire ceramic nozzles, heat dissipation plates, false teeth, orthopedic implants, direct copper-clad ceramic substrates or high-temperature co-fired ceramics.
