The invention relates to the technical field of cement manufacturing, and provides an improved method for controlling a reducing atmosphere in a rotary kiln. The sparks of the five-stage discharging pipe are checked through the first spark observation opening, so that the spark condition appearing in the first spark observation opening is eliminated; after it is confirmed that no spark exists in the fifth-stage discharging pipe through a first spark observation opening, the state of the spark at the tail of the kiln is checked through a throat of the smoke chamber at the tail of the kiln; detecting the content of Fe < 2 + > in the clinker discharged from the rotary kiln so as to determine the reducing atmosphere state in the rotary kiln; according to the determined state of the reducing atmosphere in the rotary kiln, outer axial flow air and/or inner rotational flow air are/is adjusted, so that the burn-off rate of pulverized coal is increased by reducing the length of a black fire head of flame, and the purpose of improving the reducing atmosphere in the rotary kiln is achieved. The invention provides an efficient reducing atmosphere detection mode, so that the reducing atmosphere control in the whole cement manufacturing process can be repeatedly operated, and the state can be accurately verified.
