The invention discloses an electric roller shutter starting and stopping method and an electric roller shutter applying the electric roller shutter starting and stopping method. The method comprises the following steps that S1, the overall weight of the electric roller shutter in the static state is recorded as the standard weight; s2, in the running process of the electric roller shutter, when external force acts on a lifting shutter body of the electric roller shutter, if the external force causes that the overall weight of the electric roller shutter is increased or reduced to be out of the normal fluctuation range relative to the standard weight, the electric roller shutter stops running; and S3, after the electric roller shutter is closed, when external force acts on the descending direction or the ascending direction of the lifting shutter, if the external force causes that the overall weight of the electric roller shutter is increased or reduced to be out of a normal fluctuation range relative to the standard weight, the electric roller shutter advances in the direction of the external force. According to the method, the stress condition of the electric roller shutter can be effectively judged, and starting and stopping of the electric roller shutter can be effectively achieved according to different working conditions, so that different control requirements of the electric roller shutter are met.
