The invention relates to the technical field of water conservancy projects, in particular to a lifting gate for water taking of a reservoir vertical shaft and a working method. The upper end of the gate is hoisted on a supporting platform above the vertical shaft through a hoisting device, and the gate directly faces a gate groove in the bottom of the vertical shaft. The gate comprises a gate body, a conical head and a water stop device. The gate body serves as a framework of the whole gate and comprises a plurality of sliding strips matched with the guide rails, a connecting sleeve is arranged in the center of the gate body and serves as a unique channel for communicating upper and lower waterways of the gate, and the bottom of the connecting sleeve penetrates through the water stop device.
