The invention discloses a composite tailing porous ceramic ball which comprises a main ball body and a coating layer, the main ball body comprises the following main materials in percentage by weight: 30-60% of iron tailings, 10-40% of coal gangue, 20-50% of bauxite tailings, 1-10% of zeolite tailings and 5-10% of blast furnace slag; the coating layer comprises a coating material, and the coating material is one or more of aluminum oxide, kaolin and bauxite. The invention also discloses a preparation method of the composite tailing porous ceramic ball. The innovation point of the invention is as follows: the uniform-hole tailing ceramic ball is prepared by completely using the tailings and the wastes according to a scientific and reasonable ratio, waste minerals are consumed to the greatest extent, the ceramic sintering temperature is lower, and the environment-friendly sustainable development is met.
