The invention relates to an apparatus for assisting safe getting-off of a vehicle and a method thereof. An exemplary safe get-off assist device for a vehicle includes a camera and a processor electrically connected to the camera, where the processor is configured to obtain a side view image of the vehicle captured by the camera; a determination is made as to whether a hazardous condition associated with the door occurs based on the side field image, and in response to determining that the hazardous condition occurs, an operation of the vehicle or the door is controlled.
