The invention discloses an environment-friendly light fireproof thermal insulation material and a preparation method thereof. The preparation method comprises the following steps: S1, uniformly mixing raw materials such as magnesium oxide, microcrystalline silicon powder, bentonite, cement, perlite and asbestos according to a mass ratio by using a stirrer; s2, adding clear water according to a certain proportion, and uniformly stirring to obtain a sticky liquid; s3, pouring the mixed liquid into a mold, and carrying out compression molding; s4, drying and curing are conducted at the low temperature of 40-60 DEG C or below; according to the present invention, inorganic materials are adopted as the main raw materials, such that the material does not contain harmful substances, is green and environmentally friendly, meets the sustainable development idea, has good fire resistance, is not easily exploded, can bear the high temperature environment, the fire hazard and other dangerous conditions, and does not easily cause the explosion or radiate the harmful gas.
