The invention relates to the field of road base materials, and particularly discloses an ardealite road base material and a preparation method thereof.The ardealite road base material is prepared from, by weight, 100 parts of an ardealite mixture, 0.2-0.4 part of a binder and 0.2-0.4 part of a curing agent; wherein the ardealite mixture is prepared by mixing ardealite lightweight aggregate and ardealite powder according to the weight ratio of (35-80): (65-20), and the ardealite lightweight aggregate is prepared by mixing large-particle-size ardealite particles with the particle size of 19-31.5 mm, medium-particle-size ardealite particles with the particle size of 9.5-19 mm and small-particle-size ardealite particles with the particle size of 4.75-9.5 mm according to the weight ratio of (3-4): 2: (2-3). The ardealite road base material provided by the invention has good pressure resistance, crack resistance, freezing resistance and water resistance, and the content of ardealite in the road base material is higher than 90%, so that the ardealite is easy to recycle.
