The invention relates to a local water distribution system, a method for draining the same and an aircraft. In one aspect, a method is described for draining a local water distribution system (32) that includes a buffer, a supply line connecting one or more consumers to the buffer, and consumer valves associated with the one or more consumers. The buffer is configured to locally store water from the aircraft water supply system to be distributed to the one or more consumers. Water from the buffer may be dispensed through a consumer of the one or more consumers by opening a consumer valve associated with the consumer. Water is drained from the supply line by opening a consumer valve. Water is drained from the buffer through one of the supply lines and a consumer valve or through a drain valve connecting the buffer to a waste water system of the aircraft.
