The invention discloses a preparation method of a refractory material and the refractory material, and relates to the technical field of refractory materials. The technical problems that in the prior art, a refractory material suitable for precision casting of titanium, zirconium and an alloy thereof is complex in obtaining process and high in cost, and when titanium, zirconium and the alloy thereof are used for casting some narrow gaps, runners, cavities, air channels and other spaces, a ceramic core is difficult to clean are solved. The preparation method of the refractory material comprises the following steps: uniformly mixing calcium carbonate and yttrium oxide according to a molar ratio of 1: (2-4) to obtain a mixture; drying the mixture to form powder; carrying out wet ball milling on the powder, and drying at constant temperature to form powder for more than or equal to 48 hours after the wet ball milling; 5% by weight of a polyvinyl alcohol binder is added into the powder for granulation and sieving to form a blank, and the blank is pressed and then dried to form a blank body; and sintering the blank at high temperature. The refractory material disclosed by the invention has excellent stability, high refractoriness and strength, and kerosene has a self-collapsing characteristic.
