The invention belongs to the technical field of earth and rockfill dam buildings, and particularly discloses a design and construction method of a clay joint between an asphalt concrete panel and an anti-seepage wall on a deep covering layer. The method comprises the following steps: (1) constructing a concrete face dam body and a concrete diaphragm wall main body; (2) a trapezoidal support is arranged on the downstream side of the top area of the diaphragm wall and connected with the asphalt concrete panel; and (3) the top of the diaphragm wall is wrapped with high-plasticity soil and clay and horizontally extends to the panel. The method has the beneficial effects that the high-plasticity soil and the clay can well adapt to differential settlement caused by modulus difference between the covering layer and the concrete diaphragm wall; the supporting structure on the downstream side of the anti-seepage wall further reduces the gradient of the settlement difference between the anti-seepage wall and the covering layer; due to the double-layer anti-seepage design of the asphalt concrete panel and the clay, the seepage damage of the clay is avoided, and the seepage of the area near the joint of the panel and the anti-seepage wall is reduced.
