The invention relates to an additive for rock-fill concrete engineering, which at least comprises the following components: an amylodextrin retarder, an activator, a polycarboxylate thixotropic agent and a water reducer, and the additive is used for changing the working performance and hardening performance of concrete with high self-compaction performance; the mass percent of each component is as follows: 1.6%-3.5% of the amylodextrin retarder; 5.2% to 21.3% of an exciting agent; 0.25 to 0.90 percent of a polycarboxylate thixotropic agent; and 75.2%-90.5% of a water reducing agent. When the admixture is added into high-self-compaction concrete used in rock-fill concrete engineering, the working performance such as flowability, thixotropy and long initial setting time of the high-self-compaction concrete can be improved, and the admixture has good volume stability, good anti-permeability and anti-freezing performance, low cement consumption and other hardening performance. And the method has obvious economic benefits.
