The invention discloses aerogel modified thermal insulation mortar and a preparation method thereof, and the aerogel modified thermal insulation mortar comprises the following components in parts by weight: 800-1200 parts of ordinary Portland cement, 400-800 parts of composite aggregate, 150-300 parts of fly ash, 8-15 parts of a moisturizing and thickening component, 20-35 parts of a toughening and softening component and 5-20 parts of a water repellent, the composite aggregate is prepared from the following components in parts by weight: 15 to 30 parts of aerogel, 100 to 200 parts of acrylic emulsion, 300 to 700 parts of glass beads and 750 to 1500 parts of organic solvent. The thermal insulation mortar prepared by the invention is low in heat conductivity coefficient and water absorption rate, small in dry density, and reliable in mechanical strength and durability.
