A redundancy system for a vehicle door lock. The redundancy system includes a body attached to a vehicle body structure and a latch releasably connected to the body. The outer end of the latch is configured for interacting with a locking unit of the vehicle door for releasably connecting the vehicle door to a vehicle body structure. The body includes a channel for receiving an inner end of the latch. When connected to the main body, an inner end of the latch passes through a structural portion of the vehicle body structure and extends from an outer side of the structural portion to an inner side of the structural portion.
