The invention discloses a fish passing type ship lift. The device comprises a ship reception chamber, a ship reception chamber room, a downstream approach channel, an upstream approach channel, a lower lock head, an upper lock head, a lifting mechanism, a water supplementing fish luring system and an echelon bubble curtain fish driving system. The lower lock head is located between the ship reception chamber and the downstream approach channel. The upper lock head is located between the ship reception chamber and the upstream approach channel. The water supplementing and fish luring system is located on a downstream transition section between the lower lock head and the downstream approach channel; the echelon bubble curtain fish driving systems are respectively arranged at the bottoms of the ship reception chamber, the downstream approach channel and the upstream approach channel; the ship reception chamber and the lifting mechanism are both located in the ship reception chamber, and the lifting mechanism is located above the ship reception chamber. The device has the advantages of directionally trapping and driving fishes into the ship lift chamber of the ship lift, out of the ship lift chamber and out of an upstream approach channel. The invention further discloses a fish passing method of the fish passing type ship lift.
