The invention discloses a steel beam butt joint device and a butt joint method, the steel beam butt joint device is used for butt joint of a first steel beam and a second steel beam at the end, the first steel beam is provided with a first connecting end used for butt joint, the second steel beam is provided with a corresponding second connecting end, and the steel beam butt joint device comprises a first connecting plate, a second connecting plate and a hydraulic lifting assembly. The first connecting plate is provided with a first baffle perpendicular to the butt joint direction, and the first baffle is provided with a second baffle in the butt joint direction. The second connecting plate is provided with a third baffle perpendicular to the butt joint direction and a fourth baffle parallel to the butt joint direction, and a supporting plate is arranged at the top end of the hydraulic lifting assembly and can abut against the bottom faces of the upper flanges of the first steel beam and the second steel beam.
