The invention provides a vehicle tail gate control method and device, and relates to the technical field of vehicles, based on image acquisition equipment arranged at the tail of a vehicle, the vehicle tail gate control method comprises the steps that multiple continuous image frames shot by the image acquisition equipment are acquired; performing human body detection on each image frame, and determining a human body key point position in each image frame; judging whether a user in each image frame is in a preset key area or not according to the human body key point position, obtaining a first judgment result, and determining whether the user stays in the key area or not according to the first judgment result; if yes, whether the user completes a preset triggering action or not is determined according to the positions of the human body key points in the multiple continuous image frames; and when the user completes the triggering action, the vehicle tail door is controlled to act. Vehicle tail gate control is achieved through image recognition, the hardware cost is reduced, and the control accuracy is improved.
