The invention relates to an embracing and clamping type vehicle carrier which comprises a carrying unit, the carrying unit comprises a vehicle frame, an embracing and clamping mechanism and a walking mechanism, the embracing and clamping mechanism and the walking mechanism are arranged on the vehicle frame, and the embracing and clamping mechanism comprises an embracing and clamping rod, a sliding plate, a hinge driving arm and a driving assembly. The clamping rod is rotationally connected with the sliding plate, and the sliding plate is movably connected with the frame in the length direction of the frame; the hinged driving arm is rotationally connected with the frame and rotationally connected with the holding and clamping rod; the driving assembly is connected with the sliding plate and used for driving the sliding plate to move. When the sliding plate loads the holding and clamping rod to move, the hinged driving arm pulls the holding and clamping rod to rotate relative to the sliding plate, so that a corresponding guide rail does not need to be arranged in the rotating process of the holding and clamping rod, the overall length of the vehicle carrier is effectively reduced, and the vehicle carrier is suitable for carrying short-wheelbase vehicles.
