The invention relates to gypsum-based self-leveling mortar which comprises anhydrite, high-strength gypsum and a premix, and the premix comprises quartz sand, Portland cement or ash calcium powder, a water-retaining agent, a water reducing agent, redispersible latex powder, a water repellent and a thickening time control agent; wherein the weight ratio of the anhydrite to the high-strength gypsum to the premix is (3: 5)-(2.1: 1), preferably (4: 5)-(2: 1), and more preferably (9: 10)-(1.9: 1); wherein the gypsum-based self-leveling mortar is used as a ceramic tile adhesive for paving ceramic tiles. The invention also relates to a preparation method of the gypsum-based self-leveling mortar.
