The invention provides aerogel modified gravel aggregate and a preparation method thereof. The aerogel modified gravel aggregate comprises an inner core, an outer core and an elastic shell. The particle size of the aerogel modified gravel aggregate is less than 3mm. From the perspective of the aggregate, the aerogel modified gravel aggregate is prepared by mixing the building gravel aggregate with the aerogel, adding the mixture into the slurry of the high-molecular polymer and granulating and screening. According to the aerogel modified gravel aggregate, the workability of an aerogel cement-based material is improved, meanwhile, the aerogel modified gravel aggregate is simple in preparation process, high in practicability and convenient for mass production, and a solution is provided for preparation of the aerogel cement-based material.
