The energy storage system comprises the abandoned mine pit, the abandoned mine pit comprises a mine bottom, a mine wall and a mine top extension ground which are connected in sequence, a lower reservoir is arranged at the mine bottom, an upper reservoir is arranged on the mine top extension ground, a lower storage yard is laid on the lower reservoir, an upper storage yard is laid on the upper reservoir, and the lower storage yard is provided with an upper storage yard. A water conveying pipe is arranged between the lower reservoir and the upper reservoir, a reversible pump turbine is arranged on the water conveying pipe, the reversible pump turbine is arranged in the lower reservoir and connected with water energy storage equipment, and a transportation energy storage device is arranged between the lower storage yard and the upper storage yard. The hydraulic energy storage equipment and the transportation energy storage device are both connected to the power grid, and gravity blocks are arranged on the lower storage yard and the upper storage yard. According to the method, the abandoned mine pit is effectively utilized, the geographic advantage is fully utilized, gravity energy storage and water energy storage are organically combined, effective utilization of resources is achieved, and waste of the resources is reduced.
