The invention discloses a damping coefficient self-adaptive eddy current damper and a design method, the damping coefficient self-adaptive eddy current damper comprises a fixed part, a rotating block is rotationally arranged on the fixed part, the rotating block is in threaded connection with a lead screw, a conductor plate and back iron are arranged on the rotating block, an electromagnet is arranged at the position, facing the conductor plate, of the fixed part, and a sliding groove and a sliding rheostat are arranged on the rotating block; a sliding block is arranged in the sliding groove in a sliding mode, the inner side of the sliding block is connected with a rotating block through a spring, the sliding block is fixed to a sliding piece of the sliding rheostat, two sliding conductive pieces are arranged between a fixing part and the rotating block, and one electrode of the electromagnet is connected with one binding post of the sliding rheostat through one sliding conductive piece. The sliding piece is connected with the wire in the sliding groove, and the wire is connected with the other sliding conductive piece. Compared with the prior art, the damping device can adapt to different damping according to different vibration responses, the operation comfort of structures such as bridges and buildings is improved, and the safety risk is reduced.
