The invention relates to a sliding type vehicle door with an automatic opening and closing function, in particular to a folding hinge assembly for a sliding type vehicle door. Comprising a vehicle door connecting piece (301), a connecting arm (302) and a connecting sliding block (303) and further comprises a linear guide rail (101) and a driving mechanism, the vehicle door connecting piece (301) is rotationally connected with one end of the connecting arm (302) through a pin shaft, the other end of the connecting arm (302) is rotationally connected with the connecting sliding block (303) through a pin shaft, and the connecting sliding block (303) is arranged on the linear guide rail (101) and further connected with the driving mechanism. The link arm (302) reciprocates back and forth along the linear guide rail (101) by the operation of the drive mechanism. Under the condition that a bent guide rail is not used, the vehicle door is unfolded outwards while being pulled open, so that a space is vacated at the bottom of a vehicle body for mounting a battery or other parts, and the occupied space of a vehicle technology frame is reduced.
