Ein Handlauf, insbesondere für Gerüstbauwerke, wie zum Beispiel Treppengerüstbauwerke, umfasst wenigstens zwei zum Bereitstellen eines durchlaufenden Handlaufs (26) durch eine Verbindungseinheit (34, 36) miteinander verbundene Handlaufsegmente (28, 30, 32), wobei an wenigstens einem der Handlaufsegmente (28, 30, 32) wenigstens ein Handlauf-Befestigungsorgan (38) zum Festlegen des Handlaufsegments (28, 30, 32) an einem Gerüstelement (12, 14, 16) festgelegt ist, wobei die Verbindungseinheit (34, 36) zwei um eine Schwenkachse (S) bezüglich einander verschwenkbare Verbindungselemente (42, 44) umfasst, wobei wenigstens ein, vorzugsweise jedes Verbindungselement (42, 44) mit einem der durch die Verbindungseinheit (34, 36) miteinander verbundenen Handlaufsegmente (28, 30, 32) um eine zur Schwenkachse (S) nicht orthogonale und nicht parallele Drehachse (D, D) verdrehbar verbunden oder verbindbar ist.
