Die Erfindung betrifft ein Geländerelement (10.1) zur Sicherung von Arbeits- oder Standflächen, mit wenigstens einer Geländerstrebe (12.1) und mit an einem ersten Ende (16.1.1) der Geländerstrebe (12.1) angeordneten Kopplungselementen (14.1) und an einem zweiten Ende (16.1.2) der Geländerstrebe (12.1) angeordneten Kopplungselementen (14.1) zum lösbaren Befestigen des Geländerselements (10.1) an und zwischen zwei beabstandeten Gerüstständern (15.1). Das dem ersten Ende (16.1.1) der Geländerstrebe (12.1) zugeordnete erste Kopplungslement (14.1) und/oder das dem zweiten Ende (16.1.2) der Geländerstrebe (12.1) zugeordnete zweite Kopplungselement (14.1) und/oder die Geländerstrebe weist bzw. weisen wenigstens eine längliche Führung (23.1) auf, mit der ein zugeordnetes Verbindungsmittel (20.1) gekoppelt ist. Die Erfindung betrifft auch ein Baugerüst (11.1) mit einem erfindungsgemäßen Geländerelement (10.1) und ein Verfahren zur Montage eines erfindungsgemäßen Geländerelements (10.1).
