The invention relates to a blocking bollard (101) comprising a drive (151), a main part (103), a blocking body (111), a warning device (121, 131, 151, 153, 221), and a light source (121, 221). The blocking body (111) is movably arranged on the main part (103) by means of the drive (151) along a movement direction (181) over a blocking height (185) between an open position (161) and a blocking position (165), and the blocking body (111) is moved out of of the underlying surface (145) in the blocking position (165) and has a lateral surface (115) which is arranged substantially parallel to the movement direction (181). The light source (121, 221) is arranged on the lateral surface (115) over a warning height (183) in a warning region associated with the upper face (143), and the blocking body (111) is designed to be movable by means of the drive (151) along the movement direction (181) into a warning position (163), which is moved out of the main part (103) in comparison to the open position (161) and which is at least temporarily stationary over a warning period, for a warning sequence. The warning position (163) is designed such that substantially solely the warning region is visible over the warning height (183) above the main part (103) in the warning position (163) for the warning period, and the transmission of an optical warning signal (123, 231) which is oriented substantially orthogonally to the movement axis (181) is possible only when the light source (121, 221) is projecting beyond the main part (103) in the warning position (163).
