The invention relates to an underwater cleaning machine (10) comprising a suction assembly (27) for generating a suction flow for sucking in dirt via at least one suction inlet (65) that is fluidically connected to a dirty water outlet (17) for connecting a pipe (23) or for connecting a separation device (22), in particular a filtering device, for separating dirt sucked in with the suction flow, wherein the cleaning machine has a releasing bristle assembly (80) for releasing dirt from a surface (O) to be cleaned. According to the invention, at least one suction device (50) is provided in addition to the releasing bristle assembly (80), which device operates with a separate suction action to that of the current of the suction flow through the suction inlet (65), in order to hold the releasing bristle assembly (80), by suction, against the surface (O) to be cleaned.
