The invention relates to a hard metal insert (1) for a round shank chisel on a rotatable roller of a milling machine, having a cylindrical body (2), a conical tip (3) on the body (2), a soldering surface (5) which is provided on a base (6) of the body (2) and is arranged transverse to a longitudinal direction (4) of the body (2), and ribs (8) which project radially from a lateral surface (7) of the body (2) and extend in the longitudinal direction (4), wherein a height (9) of the ribs (8) above the body (2) increases in the longitudinal direction (4) towards the base (6) and a radially outwards facing web surface (10) of the ribs (8) narrows steadily in the longitudinal direction (4) towards the base (6). In order to reduce the material required for the hard metal insert (1), the invention proposes that the ribs (8) extend in the longitudinal direction (4) all the way to the soldering surface (5).
