The invention relates to a device for preventing persons from falling, in particular from a roof, comprising a foot plate (11) that can be secured to a sub-surface, a support tube (10) protruding upwards from said foot plate, and means (13) arranged at the upper end region of the support tube for attaching a rope, by means of which the person is prevented from falling, wherein, according to the invention, the fall protection means is constructed in a modular manner, wherein same has at least one support tube of a predefined diameter with a tensile element (12) positioned concentrically inside the support tube, wherein at least two different variants of foot plate (11) are provided, which can be optionally detachably connected to the lower end of the support tube (10) and/or at least two different variants of means (13) for attaching a rope at the upper end region of the support tube (10) are provided which can be optionally connected to the upper end of the support tube (10). The invention has the advantage that, with a basic type of the support tube (10), a plurality of fall protection means can be achieved which have different characteristics in terms of load bearing capacity and which are suitable for respective different roof sub-structures.
