The invention relates to an improved locking device. The locking device (6) is of the type comprising, on the one hand, a lock catch support (10) fitted with a lock catch (16) and, on the other hand, a lock housing (20) incorporating a lock adapted to be folded on the lock catch, characterized in that the locking device further comprises an inductive proximity sensor (30), which is arranged in the lock catch support (10), and in that the inductive proximity sensor (30) is arranged in the lock housing (20). The inductive proximity sensor is fixed to the lock crossbar support (10) and is adapted to detect the presence of a reference surface (25) of the lock housing (20) within the operating range of the proximity sensor, proving a correct locking state of the locking device (6) when the distance between the proximity sensor and the reference surface is within the operating range of the proximity sensor.
