The present invention relates to a method for rinsing a pipe-bound drinking water dispensing device (1), wherein the pipe-bound drinking water dispensing device (1) comprises a drinking water treatment unit (5) connected to a drinking water supply, a tap fitting (7) connected to the drinking water treatment unit (5) by means of a pipe, at least one connection pipe (6, 6', 6") via which the drinking water treatment unit (5) is connected to the tap fitting (7), and a control and input system (8) designed to give control instructions to the drinking water treatment unit (5) and the tap fitting (7), the method comprising the following steps: (a) determining the time period since the last water withdrawal from the tap fitting (7); (b) comparing the time period determined in step (a) with a time period specified in the control and input system (8); and (c) passing an amount of water specified by the control and input system (8) through the drinking water treatment unit (5) if the time period determined in step (a) exceeds the time period specified in the control and input system (8). Furthermore, the present invention relates to a pipe-bound drinking water dispensing device (1), the control and input system (8) of which is designed to carry out such a method.
