The invention relates to a method for producing a flame-retarding coating on a substrate. Said metal compound is selected from a metal hydroxofluoride, a metal fluoride anion compound and a metal hydroxofluoride anion compound. Subsequently, the treated substrate is dried. In addition to the production method, the invention also relates to the coated substrate.
