The invention relates to a method for controlling a mechatronic drive for moving a component, in particular a side door, movably arranged on the motor vehicle, in which method at least the following successive method steps are provided: activating (A) the mechatronic system, checking a user condition (NU), selecting an operating mode (M), querying a deactivation (D) of the drive and, according to the query result, deactivating the drive or driving the component, and querying whether a termination condition (ABB) is satisfied and, according to the query result, deactivating (D) the drive or driving (HF) the component.
