The invention relates to devices and methods for identifying and locating leaks or the accumulation of moisture, for example in roofs or building structures. For this purpose, what is proposed is a device that comprises a multiplicity of conductor tracks (5) that are fixed to a carrier strip (3). When the conductor tracks (5) are wetted by moisture, this is identified on the basis of a change in an electrical property that is able to be measured using the conductor tracks (5). The device additionally comprises disconnection elements (10) that are able to be positioned on the carrier strip (3) and are each able to sever at least one predefined conductor track (5) there. Severing the conductor tracks (5) creates measuring regions which can be used to locate the moisture or the associated leak. The shape and extent of the measuring regions may in this case be adapted to the building structure to be monitored, for example to the position of rafters (2). The proposed device may additionally be retrofitted to the periphery of a moisture-carrying surface (4) and still be used for extensive monitoring.
