The invention relates to civil engineering machine for forming a hole in the ground, the civil engineering machine comprising: a machine frame (12); a holding device (14) in an upper region of the machine frame (12) for holding the civil engineering machine (10) on a supporting cable or supporting rod; a removal device (20) which has at least one rotatingly drivable removal element (22), is arranged in a lower end region of the machine frame (12) and is designed to remove ground material; a drive (16) arranged on the machine frame (12) for rotatingly driving the at least one removal element (22); and a suction device for suctioning removed ground material, together with a liquid which is located in the hole, upward by means of a suction line (32), the suction device comprising at least one suction opening in the lower end region of the machine frame (12) and a suction pump (34) which is arranged on the machine frame (12). The suction line (32) opens into a distributing unit (40) which is arranged on the machine frame (12), and an upwardly guided discharge line (38) and a return line (60) for returning a portion of the suctioned fluid to the lower end region of the machine frame (12) are connected to the distributing unit.
