The invention relates to a tamping assembly (4) for tamping a track (3), comprising tamping tools (12) which are arranged in pairs and can be fed towards one another by means of a relevant feed cylinder (16), wherein: a feed piston (17) to which a hydraulic pressure from a first hydraulic circuit (23) can be applied is located in the relevant feed cylinder (16); and a vibration piston (30) is associated with each feed cylinder (16) in order to superimpose a vibration on a feed movement (24); and the vibration piston (30) is located in a pressure amplifier (27) having a primary cylinder (28) and a secondary cylinder (29). In this way, the vibration generation can be carried out at a lower pressure level.
