The invention relates to a method (20) for controlling a drive system (1) having at least two drive units (M1, M2), which can be actuated independently of each other and operationally jointly act with a respective drive force at force action points (2, 3), which are spaced apart from each other, of a drive body (4) to be driven on this drive body in order to move it, wherein a drive speed (W) of a master drive unit (M1) is operationally controlled in accordance with a predefined master target drive speed (W_M1), a slave target drive speed (W_M2) of a slave drive unit (M2) based on the master target drive speed (W_M1) and a correction speed (ΔW), which is determined by means of a corrector (K) from an operationally detected position difference (Δϑ) between the master drive unit (M1) and the slave drive unit (M2), in such a way that the position difference (Δϑ) is reduced, and a drive speed (W) of the slave drive unit (M2) is operationally controlled in accordance with the determined slave target drive speed (W_M2). The invention also relates to a drive system (1), which is controlled by a method (20) of this kind.
