A speed reducer 10 according to an embodiment includes: a carrier 11; a first case 20 encircling an outer circumferential surface of the carrier 11 between two end surfaces of the carrier 11, the first case 20 being held by the carrier 11 between the two end surfaces of the carrier 11 so as to rotate relative to the carrier 11; a second case 30 encircling the outer circumferential surface of the carrier 11, the second case 30 being held by the carrier 11 at a different position between the two end surfaces of the carrier 11 than the first case 20 so as to rotate relative to the carrier 11; a first reduction portion 40 including a first input portion, the first input portion being held by the carrier 11 and configured to receive rotation input from a first side FS toward which one of the two end surfaces of the carrier 11 faces; and a second reduction portion 50 including a second input portion, the second input portion being held by the carrier 11 and configured to receive rotation input from a second side SS toward which another of the two end surfaces of the carrier 11 faces.
