A device for protecting a pipe from freezing. The device comprises a motorised apparatus 102 and a non-motorised apparatus 112 for moving fluid within the pipe, a thermostat 108 and a non-return valve 104. The motorised apparatus may be situated in a compartment separate to the non-motorised apparatus and apparatus may also be located at an opposite end of a pipe network to one another. The non-return valve may link a cold water supply pipe 106 to the motorised apparatus to prevent backflow. The thermostat may be capable of being set to a predetermined temperature and the thermostat may initiate the motorised apparatus. The apparatus may further comprise an expansion vessel in the pipe network, may incorporate a heating element in the pipe network and the motorised and non-motrised apparatus may comprise piston pumps.
