A multi step apparatus and process of material refinement features a first fines separation 20, a reduction of water content to less than 20%, 30, attrition scrubbing 40, a second fines separation 50, and a second dewatering 70. The apparatus may further feature a chassis 2 and a an additional grading step 10. The apparatus and process are used in the refinement of material, in particular the selection of particle sizes appropriate for use as frac, or high purity silica, sand to be used as a proppant in fracking.
