The replaceable post assembly 2 includes a ground engaging base 6 and a removable post structure having upper and lower ends, the post structure includes a locking mechanism for locking the post structure within the base, and the locking mechanism includes a locking element 52 for releasing the locking mechanism when subjected to a sufficient force. The locking mechanism may include a resilient element 50 to carry the locking element and a frangible element which breaks when the post structure is rotated in an unlocking direction. The base may include a locking formation 36 which includes a cam surface for engaging the locking element and deforming the resilient element as the post is rotated in a locking direction. The locking mechanism may include a helical cam surface and be fitted onto a collar 12 which reinforces the post structure. Also claimed are methods of locking, unlocking and replacing the post.
