A bollard assembly 10 for installation in a ground surface 94 comprises a bollard 12. The bollard is formed from a plurality of telescopic bollard members 14 movable between a collapsed condition and an extended condition. The assembly may include a housing 22 and may be operated by hand. A lockable cover may be provided to make the housing substantially watertight. The bollard may include a cap connectable to the uppermost member and may also be provided with a gripping member. Formations on the members may retain the bollard in the extended condition. An accessory such as a reel of barrier tape or a light may be mounted on the bollard. The bollard members may be tapered and hollow, allowing them to nest together. The members may be formed from a moulded plastic material. The bollard assembly may be used to provide a temporary barrier in a petrol station.
