Assistance system for vehicle door
An assist system for opening and closing a vertically-hinged door 20 of a vehicle comprising a sensor 104 118 to measure at least one vehicle parameter, for example the orientation of the vehicle, inclination - pitch or roll axis, the angular velocity of the door, current mass of a portion of the door, external temperature or speed of the vehicle; and an actuator to adjust the force required to open or close the door and a control unit for controlling the actuator based on the value of the vehicle parameter. This adjustment may use an adaptive damper, for example a valve with a magnetorheological fluid. The system is designed to produce a certain force when the door is being opened or closed on a hill, such that when the door is opened down slope the extra acceleration due to gravity is taken into account. Also defined is a method of opening/closing a door, a controller for implementing the method and a door or vehicle with the assist system.
