Composite sheet material
Method of forming a composite sheet material comprising energising a pair of electrodes 10, 11 to apply an electrostatic charge to a bed of fibres 2 located therebetween orienting at least some of the fibres to be substantially orthogonal to the electrodes and sandwiching at least some of the oriented fibres between first 131 and second 141 sheets. The first sheet may subsequently be removed and a third sheet 151 used to laminate the fibres between the second and third sheets. The first sheet may comprise pressure-sensitive or non-curable adhesives 132, the second and third sheets may comprise structural or curable adhesive 142, 152. Resin may be introduced between some or all of the fibres, the resin may be introduced before or after they are sandwiched. Claims are also included for apparatus 100 to achieve the above method, an intermediate product comprising a sheet with a plurality of orthogonal fibres there on, a composite of tw0 sheets sandwiching fibres using two different adhesives, a sandwich construction where the fibres are 10 mm or less in length and a sandwich construct where one sheet is deformed from a planar shape.
