Protective superstructure for a nuclear power plant
A protective superstructure 203 for a nuclear power plant 101 comprising a first end region 204 for covering a nuclear reactor 102 in a containment structure, a second end region 206 opposite the first end region for covering a cooling water pump house, and a central region 205 for covering a turbine 103 hall. The superstructure has an oval-shaped plan profile having greater curvature at the first end region than at the second end region. The first end region may be formed of reinforced concrete arches formed of reinforced concrete panels. The second end region may comprise arched trusses having an outer shell of polycarbonate, carbon fibre, or glass fibre-reinforced panels. Also claimed is a nuclear power plant located adjacent a body of water 201, the plant comprising in order of distance from the body of water a cooling water pump house, a turbine hall, and a nuclear reactor in a containment structure, where the protective superstructure covers the plant. The plant may comprise an arcuate berm.
