A vehicle door check mechanism
A vehicle door check mechanism 120 comprising a door holder bar 121 having a stop 122 at one end for attachment to a vehicle door, with the other end 109 for attachment to the vehicle body, a support housing 125 fastened to within a cavity in the door and having an passage through which the door holder bar passes and a pneumatic retarder, e.g. a bellows 150, having at least one vent 151 which is compressed when the door is opened and used to retard the motion of the door as it moves to the fully open position, e.g. at high speed or blown by the wind. The bellows may be located in a variety of positions, either attached at both ends to the bar such that the interface between the bar and the bellows acts as the vent, or only attached at one end to the bar. The bar preferably passes through the bellows. There may also be a spring biased door holding mechanism 132 which engages with recesses 124 on the door holder bar.
