The water heater 1 comprises a heater tank 2 with a heater tank inlet 8 and outlet 10; and a valve 4 disposed upstream of the heater tank inlet. The valve has a valve body 12 including a valve inlet 17, valve outlet 19 in fluid communication with the heater tank inlet and a valve member disposed between the valve inlet and outlet to control water flow. The valve outlet is disposed in a first plane ‘A’ and the valve inlet is disposed in a second, non-parallel plane ‘B’. Ideally the first and second planes are perpendicular to one another. The valve inlet is rotatable about an axis ‘C’ that is normal to the first plane and passes through the valve outlet. Ideally the heater includes an inlet transfer assembly comprising first and second connector fittings 21,23 connected via an intermediate pipe 25. The pipe and first connector fitting are ideally pivotable about respective second and third rotation axes ‘D’ and ‘E’ to facilitate connection of the heater to a cold water supply pipe. The inlet transfer assembly is also claimed.
