A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
A concealed door closer comprising an elongate housing 4 for mounting within a door or frame includes an elongate element/cylinder 18 movable to an extended position and biased toward a retracted position, e.g. by a spring 36. A tension link 56 couples the cylinder 18 to an anchor mounted the other of the door or frame. A latch (104) is movable between a latch position engaging and retaining the cylinder 18 in the extended position compressing the spring and an unlatch position in which the spring is free to bias the cylinder to close the door. The latch member is released by an electric actuator such as a solenoid to move the latch to the unlatch position for example upon loss of power or signal from a fire-alarm. The latch may inlcude a pivotal arm (104) engaging a protrusion 26 on the rear of the cylinder 18. The latch may automatically engage the cylinder upon opening the door beyond a certain angle. The latch mechanism may be mounted on a sliding bracket allowing the door to operate in a free-swing mode. A piston damper may be included.
