A first invention relates to a method of determining a speed profile (101, Fig 4A) of maximum allowable swing speed by determining a maximum initial swing speed; a maximum safety swing speed for stopping rotation within a predetermined maximum angular stopping displacement from a safety time and/or displacement; and a deceleration ramp (103, Fig 4A) for reducing the maximum initial swing speed to the maximum safety swing speed. A control system limits the maximum operational swing speed of the swing apparatus to the speed profile. A second invention relates to a controller that limits the maximum swing speed to a speed profile that comprises a maximum initial swing speed; a maximum safety swing speed and a deceleration ramp. A third invention relates to a work vehicle 10 comprising a swing apparatus 11 and a controller of the second invention.
